Our history

For about 70 years, Saab, a Swedish Defense and Security company, founded in 1937, has maintained a close relationship with Brazil. The company's first staretd business in the country in the 1950s with the sale of its first civil aircraft, the Saab Scandia.

From the beginning of the 1980s, sales of military products occurred through sales representatives and since 2009 the company has maintained its established operations in the country. Among the various solutions used by the Brazilian Armed Forces are the RBS 70 Very Short
Range Air Defence Missile System, the AT-4 anti-car weapon, the Carl Gustaf multipurpose cannon without recoil, the Early Air Alert and Erieye Control system, training equipment and simulation, Electronic Warfare solutions and the Gripen E / F fighter.

Brazil is also a user of solutions for civil security developed by Saab, such as the shared surface surveillance platform that is installed at Tom Jobim International Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, and Afonso Pena Airport, in Curitiba.

From 2021, the Brazilian Air Force will receive the first Gripen aircraft in Wing 2, in Anápolis. The partnership for the joint development and supply of 36 Gripen fighters is the largest export contract in the history of Sweden and the technology transfer program is certainly one of the most expressive globally. With a contract in force since 2014, the broad partnership due to the program solidified the company's position in the country and in Latin America.

Currently, about 100 employees work in the offices in Brasília, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro; at the Saab aerostructures factory, responsible for assembling the Gripen in São Bernardo do Campo (SP) and at Saab Sensores e Serviços do Brasil, also in São Bernardo do Campo, and at the Gripen Projects and Development Center (GDDN), at Embraer's plant in Gavião Peixoto (SP).
